(January 24th, 2008. - Editor)          CBS News announced January 18th that the network will welcome veteran interviewer Charlie Rose as a contributor to 60 Minutes. Rose, who has come to fame on the PBS interview show that carries his name, will begin making contributions starting this season, while continuing in his role as Executive Producer and Executive Editor of his PBS show, which is now carried on 215 PBS Stations. Prior to this announcement, Rose was a contributor to 60 Minutes II from 1999 to 2005. He also worked as the anchor for the CBS News Show Nightwatch from 1984 to 1990, winning an Emmy Award in 1997 for his gripping interview of Charles Manson. In making the announcement, 60 Minutes Executive Producer Jeff Fager was optimistic about the contributions Rose would be able to make to their already highly rated and highly regarded news magazine program. "It will be great to have Charlie working with us again. His considerable talents will make our all-star team even better."

          FOX is trying to add some football excitement to their primetime line-up, by inviting The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders to guest on a special two hour episode of Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? that will air Thursday, January 24th. The pretty pom-pommers will surprise a contestant, who is a Dallas Cowboys fan and paramedic from Sunland, CA, and will help him tackle questions about elementary subjects. When this special edition of the A+ quiz show kicks off, the contestant will have the option of teaming with the 5th Grade whiz-kids or huddling with the spirited cheerleaders. Will the cowgirls’ beauty be a distraction or do they have the smarts to prevent this contestant from fumbling when he faces questions.

          ABC is gearing-up for The 80th Annual Academy Awards by launching a new WEB site designed to get the fans as close to the stars and the event as possible. Oscar.com includes bios, clips and film info on this year's nominees; a red carpet section with photo galleries from the past five years and a red carpet retro gallery; a style section with men's and women's fashion; and an Oscar history section. The site was launched with a live streaming video presentation of the Nominations announcement on January 22nd.
          Other features include a "Predict the Winners" game that offer fans a chance to test their skills at Oscar predictions; an embeddable Oscar widget that fans can add to blogs, iGoogle, MyYahoo, Facebook, MySpace and other top social network sites, containing video from Oscar.com, a full list of nominees, the latest Oscar news and a trivia game; and an enhanced Oscar mobile site that will provide all the content on Oscar.com, along with alerts and additional trivia games.
          The 80th Annual Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre, and televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5:00 p.m., PT (8 p.m., ET).

         ABC's daytime drama General Hospital will welcome Sarah Brown back to the cast. Her arrival in Port Charles will coincide with an explosive February Sweep storyline. The three-time Emmy Award-winning will make her first appearance on air is Thursday, January 31.

          In the storyline, Claudia arrives in Port Charles and ends up in a chance meeting with the town's mob boss, Sonny Corinthos, and sparks fly. Soon thereafter, Sonny - still reeling from the rejection of his marriage proposal to girlfriend Kate - will have a one-night stand with the super-sexy and mysterious woman, not knowing who she is and why she has arrived in town. Turmoil will ensue once Sonny learns Claudia's identity and how that could impact his business. Likewise, Claudia's family (father Anthony, brother Johnny and attorney Trevor) will be anything but pleased.
          "I am pleased to welcome Sarah Brown back to ABC and 'General Hospital'," said Mr. Frons in making the announcement. "Fans will have the opportunity to see her incredible acting ability and chemistry with Maurice Benard when the pair go head to head again from day one."
          "I am thrilled to be returning to my 'General Hospital' family, and especially looking forward to portraying a new character that will immediately create fireworks throughout the town of Port Charles and its many residents," adds Ms. Brown.
          Ms. Brown originally created and played the role of Carly Benson, the eventual wife of mob boss Sonny Corinthos and the lost daughter of Nurse Bobbi Spencer, in 1996. She received praise from both critics and fans and garnered three Daytime Emmys(r) for her portrayal of the spunky and misunderstood character. She left the show in 2001.

          CBS has launched a second season of their on-line companion series Ghost Whisperer: The Other Side. Each Friday through March 7, fans can watch a new episode of the unique Web series that shows the spirit world from the perspective of an earthbound spirit, Zach (Mark Hapka), who continues to search for answers regarding his death. This season, Zach will be joined by new characters including BJ (Lucas Alifano), an urban skateboarder who has been stuck in the Dark Side for nearly 20 years; Luke (Peter Douglas), a dark mysterious spirit collector who is suddenly fixated on Zach; Haley (Marie Westbrook), a spirit seductress who makes disingenuous attempts to befriend Zach; Lost Spirit (Braden Lynch); and Girlfriend (Tara Hunnewell) and Boyfriend (Gabriel Praddo), who are both haunted by the Spirit World.  This second season of the web series will once again be directed by Claudio Faeh ("Coronado," "Hollow Man 2," "Starship Troopers: Marauder").

          Six time Grammy Award-winning singer and entertainer Mary J. Blige has agreed to return to the ABC daytime drama One Life To Live for two appearances on February 15th and 18th. The singer will perform two songs from her Grammy and NACCP Image Award-nominated album, "Growing Pains".

          Ms. Blige previously appeared on "One Life to Live" on July 28, 2006. The following week, her album Soundscan sales soared 40 percent. She will once again appear as herself, this time as a surprise guest at Starr Manning's (Kristen Alderson) Sweet Sixteen. Unlike her appearance in 2006, Ms. Blige will be accompanied by her band to perform her Grammy-nominated hit single "Just Fine," as well as a second song from the CD, entitled "Hurt Again."

          Actor Mario Van Peebles has agreed to join the cast of the ABC daytime drama All My Children. His first appearance on the drama will be on January 29th. Van Peebles will play the role of Samuel Woods, a U.S. District Attorney who is running for the Senate. Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) takes special notice of Samuel, primarily as a guest on her talk show, "New Beginnings," but she's in store for a lot more than a spike in ratings: Samuel will soon become a nightmare, though one that could turn into a romance.

          Van Peebles is an award-winning director, writer and actor with an impressive list of credits. His feature directorial debut was "New Jack City," which he also starred in. He directed and starred in the multicultural Western "Posse," and directed and co-produced the historical drama "Panther," which earned him the Silver Leopard Award. In 2003 he starred in, directed, co-wrote and produced the Indie film "Baadasssss," which garnered awards including Best Film at the Philadelphia Film Festival, Best Director at the Black Reel Awards and three Spirit Awards. In 2004 he directed the episode entitled "Poetic License" as part of the documentary series "First Amendment." He also directed and starred in "Hard Luck," and most recently directed and co-starred in the series "Damages." His accomplished list of acting credits include the role of political icon Malcolm X in "Ali," co-starring in the telefilm "Ten Thousand Black Men Named George," and as historical figure Ashley Totten and "Heartbreak Ridge," for which he won the NAACP Image Award. He earned a Cable ACE Award nomination for his work in "Third & Oak: The Pool Hall" and was awarded the Bronze Halo Award for "Children of the Night." He has also guest starred on "Law & Order." Van Peebles' new projects include the documentary "Bring Your 'A' Game," which he is producing and directing, and he is currently shooting "Mario's Hollywood Green House," which follows the actor as he embarks on an eco-sensitive renovation of his house.
