(Thursday, February 28th, 2008.  -  Editor)          The CW Network is taking what is either an aggressive move to gain viewers for the four half hour situation comedies currently in production for the network, or last-ditch effort to create some ratings success, somewhere, depending on how you look at it. The network recently moved the four comedies "Everybody Hates Chris", "Aliens In America", "Girlfriends" and "The Game" to time slots on Sunday night and out of time slots on Monday. The four comedies have done as well in the Sunday time slot as re-runs of other reality and dramatic shows, but they are not doing as well on Sunday nights, as they were in their time slots on Monday nights.

One has to wonder if the move is a reaction to the need for programming because of the WGA strike, or if the network was trying to take a run at rival network FOX. It could be that that the word came down from the parent company, Viacom, who also own The CBS Network, that they wanted less competition for their own Monday night group of comedies. That would explain why the group of four were not allowed to remain on Monday, with a rerun of the episode inserted into the schedule on the following Sunday. That practice has been the standard running method of the network this season as they have scrambled to fill time slots. With the Sunday night ratings at almost half what they were on Monday, it likely will not be long before the producers of those shows insist on returning to their old slot during the week and away from ratings killers "60 Minutes" and "Sunday Night Football".

I question the whole idea of taking the one successful thing they have at The CW Network and fiddling with it. Therre are so many other places in their schedule that are in need of so much help, that it should be a "No Brainer" to leave the successes alone.

What can I say, ABC just likes to be first. This time, the network leads the group of major television networks in announcing the names of those reality, alternative and game shows that have been ordered for the fall season. "America's Funniest Home Videos", "Dancing with the Stars", "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", "Supernanny" and "Wife Swap" will all return for the 2008-2009. The network will announce additional returning and new shows when they announce their full schedule in mid-May during "Up Fronts" week in New York.

Host Howie Mandel will have a chance to visit the foreign-based "Deal or No Deal" productions in a series of exciting new games to be played in Estonia, South Africa and the Phillipines. Airing in May, on NBC, these special two-hour episodes will feature popular United States host Mandel, along with American contestants who will play the game according to the foreign set's rules.
"Deal or No Deal" began in the Netherlands and is now produced in over 50 countries. With over two years of success with the US version, the around-the-world tour brings the show back to its international roots. The international games will be played on the actual sets in the respective country, with their host, models and Banker. Mandel will be on hand to aid the American contestants as they play versions of the game that American's have never seen before and possibly receive offers testing the American sensibility. In between games, Mandel will take the viewers on a guided tour of the countries, where he will sample the country's local offerings, interact with the locals and shop for souvenirs to bring home to the Briefcase Models and maybe the Banker, too.

Country music singer and "Hannah Montana" co-star Billy Ray Cyrus will be the new host of the hit music-competition series "Nashville Star" that is scheduled to premiere on NBC this summer.           The Show continues its national casting search on March 8 with stops in the Los Angeles area, Washington, D.C., Austin and Nashville. Casting information is available at www.nbc.com.

Multi-platinum singer songwriter, Billy Ray Cyrus, broke into the country music scene in 1992 with his debut album "Some Gave All," which sold more than nine million copies. Since, Cyrus has released 10 albums and held multiple chart toppers, including "Could've Been Me" and "Busy Man." Recently he earned a whole new fan base when he began starring with daughter Miley Cyrus on the popular series "Hannah Montana."
