2008 BEST NEW FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR TAYLOR SWIFT TO PERFORM DURING SEASON PREMIERE OF 'NASHVILLE STAR'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - May 29, 2008 –
NBC's "Nashville Star" will kick start its first season on NBC with a performance by 2008 ACM Best New Female Vocalist Taylor Swift. Her performance on "Nashville Star" will be part of the show's two-hour premiere episode that will also feature highlights from the nationwide casting calls and will unveil the Top 12.

Widely hailed as the first bonafide country music star of the MySpace generation, 18-year-old Taylor Swift currently has singles climbing both the country and pop radio charts. At the age of 17, Taylor became the youngest person to single-handedly write and sing a number-one country single entirely on her own ("Our Song" spent 6 consecutive weeks at #1 atop Billboard's Country Singles Chart), and she is the first female solo artist in country music history to write or co-write every song on a platinum-selling debut CD. At 14, she signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music, and in 2006 released her self-titled debut CD on Big Machine Records. Taylor Swift has reached triple-platinum (3 million sales) status and has spent 18 weeks so far in the #1 position atop Billboard's Country CD Sales Chart. Taylor is consistently ranked Country's #1 artist on MySpace, and was named Country Music's Hottest Female Artist of 2007 by AOL Music and Best New Artist of 2007 by the editors of iTunes.

Taylor was named this year's Top New Female Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music, and won 2008 CMT Music Awards for Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year. She was recently named Superstar of Tomorrow at the 10th Annual Young Hollywood Awards, making her the first musician to ever receive this prestigious award. She is the reigning CMA Horizon Award winner, as well as the Nashville Songwriters Association International's Songwriter / Artist of the Year. Taylor is featured on the cover of the June, 2008 issue of Seventeen magazine, and has also recently appeared on the covers of Rolling Stone, Billboard, Blender, and USA Weekend. Taylor was named one of People magazine's 100 Most Beautiful People of 2008, and is featured on Maxim's current Hot 100 list. She is on tour this year with Rascal Flatts, and has also toured with George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill and Brad Paisley.

This year, "Nashville Star" the longest running cable reality competition series moves into the spotlight on NBC. With a bigger stage to play, the expectations become higher and the competition tougher as each contestant will turn to the celebrity panel that will not only judge them during the live shows, but will also provide a unique mentoring aspect to the series.

QUOTABLES: 'THE CHRIS MATTHEWS SHOW'

Predictions -- Sunday, June 1, 2008

RICHARD STENGEL, TIME MAGAZINE:
"I was in the Middle East last week interviewing Tony Blair and I also sat down with Tzipi Livni, who is the foreign minister of Israel. She said to Barack Obama, if you want to help yourself with Jewish voters in Florida, come and visit us in Israel."

KELLY O'DONNELL, NBC NEWS:
"McCain's been getting a lot of heat about not having a thematic message, not making the most of his head start. Advisors say they've been holding back because they know all the attention's on Obama and Hillary. So we'll have to see if they actually come up with something once that race is determined."

HOWARD FINEMAN, NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE:
"Barack Obama's strategists are beginning to look at how to conduct the convention in Denver. And besides the obvious stardom of Obama and his wife, the other big star -- assuming his health is good enough -- is going to be Teddy Kennedy. It's going to be all about Teddy and the Kennedy legacy, which is the way to bring the Clinton people back in, to draw them into the fall campaign."

CYNTHIA TUCKER, ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION:
"Republicans don't believe they have to pay Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr any attention because of the Ron Paul voters; all the libertarian energy is being sucked up by the Ron Paul vote. But if Bob Barr does well in Georgia, his home state, it puts Georgia in play for Barack Obama."

NBC SPORTS' FRENCH OPEN COVERAGE BEGINS SATURDAY

NEW YORK – May 28, 2008 - Rafael Nadal seeks to become only the second man ever to win four consecutive French Open titles as NBC Sports' coverage of the 2008 French Open from Roland Garros in Paris concludes with live coverage of the women and men's finals next Saturday and Sunday, June 7-8. Host Ted Robinson anchors NBC's coverage, joined by analysts John McEnroe and Mary Carillo.

Nadal, the three-time defending champion at Roland Garros can match tennis legend Bjorn Borg as the only man to win four straight French Open titles. Borg won the French Open six times including four straight from 1978-1981. Nadal has spent the last 149 weeks as the world's second ranked men's tennis player and he holds a 10-6 lifetime advantage over world No. 1 Roger Federer including three French Open wins. Nadal is undefeated in all 21 matches played at Roland Garros and had won a record 81 straight clay court matches until Federer defeated him in the 2007 Hamburg Masters final.

Federer has been the world's top ranked tennis player for a record 226 straight weeks. He has won 12 Grand Slam singles titles (five Wimbledon, four U.S. Open, three Australian Open) and is closing in on Pete Sampras' Grand Slam record of 14, but the French Open title still eludes him. Federer has lost to defending French Open champion Rafael Nadal in the Finals in each of the last two years and in the semifinal round in 2005.

MCENROE ON FEDERER: "Roger can win but his window of opportunity is closing. Having said that he is probably still the second best player on clay right now so of course he has a chance of winning the French."

CARILLO ON FEDERER VS. NADAL: Can Federer win this? Without a doubt. He's been in the last two finals. Only Nadal is a better clay court player. Remember that Federer grew up on this stuff (clay) too and has a genuine feel for this stuff. He's playing the greatest clay courter of his generation, someone who may end up rivaling the great (Bjorn) Borg on this surface. Federer has to play his very best if he were to make it to the final against Nadal. He would have to play with aggression and little fear, and try to knock Nadal off his pins in fewer than five sets. That is perhaps the tallest single order in tennis these days.

MCENROE ON CLAY: "Clay is slippery. Balance is more difficult. Clay favors the defensive minded players and gives them more of a comfort zone."

On the women's side, with the surprise retirement of Justine Henin, who won three straight French Open titles and four in five years, the competition is wide open. Current No. 1 Maria Sharapova is coming off a win at this year's Australian Open and would, with a win at Roland Garros, become only the ninth woman to complete the career Grand Slam joining, among others: Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams. Williams, the 2002 champion is having a solid season and will certainly be a top challenger to Sharapova, as will last year's runner-up and world No. 2 ranked Ana Ivonovic as well as Venus Williams and world No. 3 ranked Jelena Jankovic.

MCENROE ON THE SURPRISE RETIREMENT OF HENIN: "I was definitely taken by surprise by Justine Henin's recent retirement. I hope that her decision is the right one for her because it is certainly a blow to our sport."

MCENROE ON THE WIDE OPEN WOMEN'S FIELD: "I think it is more wide open that any time in my memory. I can't even name a favorite right now."

CARILLO ON THE WOMEN'S FIELD: "Losing Henin to retirement throws open the field, first and foremost, to Serena, Maria Sharapova and Venus former Grand Slam tournament winners who know the taste of major wins."

FRENCH OPEN GOES MOBILE: Tennis fans that are on the go can now, for the first time, watch the French Open live on their mobile phones through NBC2Go.

Following is the schedule for NBC's coverage of the 2008 French Open, which culminates with live HD coverage of the women's (June 7) and men's (June 8) finals next weekend:

Friday, June 6, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (all time zones) – Men's Semifinals
Saturday, June 7, 9 a.m.-Noon ET – Women's Final (Live)
Sunday, June 8, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. ET – Men's Final (Live)

In 1975, NBC became the first American television network to provide coverage of the French Open when the network signed a three-year deal with the French Tennis Federation. The tournament was covered by CBS from 1980-82 and returned to NBC in 1983, where it has remained since.
