NBC
DEBUTS FIRST-EVER POKER-THEMED GAME SHOW ON PRIME TIME BROADCAST
TELEVISION WITH THE AUGUST 1 PREMIERE OF 'FACE THE ACE'
Universal City, Ca., July 21st, 2009.
Qualifiers get a chance to go heads-up against some of the
world's best poker pros for a shot at $1 million when NBC debuts the
first-ever prime time poker themed game show on a broadcast network
with the premiere of "Face the Ace" on Saturday August 1
(9-10 p.m. EST). Hosted by Steve Schirripa ("The Sopranos"),
"Face the Ace" gives contestants the opportunity to compete
against as many as three different top professional poker players on
national television for the chance to win $1 million. The unique
format of the show incorporates the entertainment of a traditional
game show, the drama of a reality show and the tension of a
high-stakes poker match. The series will premiere with back-to-back
Saturday primetime shows and continue its seven- episode run on
Saturday afternoons beginning in September.
"Most people don't get to compete against their favorite athletes
in sports like football or basketball," said Steve Schirripa, who
once served as the entertainment director of a Las Vegas strip hotel.
"This show gives contestants an incomparable opportunity to test
their skills against some of the best poker players in the world. The
same people they've read about or have watched on TV are the ones they
have to defeat for chance at winning life-changing money."
The premise of the show is simple – contestants will select a pro
from behind four smoked-glass doors (the "Aces"); the
contestant and the pro will play heads-up no limit hold'em for
$40,000. If the contestant wins, they can keep the $40,000 or play a
different pro for $200,000. If the contestant wins the second match,
they can keep the $200,000 or play a third pro for $1,000,000. Win a
third match and they take home $1 million. If the contestant loses at
any point, they walk away with nothing.
The poker pros won't be laying down either, as each match they win
secures $10,000 for their charity of choice.
All "Face the Ace" contestants were selected from a group of
players that qualified online at www.facetheace.com and
www.fulltiltpoker.net.
Fifteen professional poker players were chosen to rotate throughout
the show representing the "Aces," – Patrik Antonius, Andy
Bloch, Allen Cunningham, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Gus Hansen,
Jennifer Harman, Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Howard Lederer, Erick
Lindgren, Mike Matusow, Huck Seed, Erik Seidel, and Gavin Smith.
Collectively, these pros have won 41 World Series of Poker bracelets,
11 World Poker Tour open titles, and amassed nearly $100 million in
live tournament winnings.
In addition to Schirripa, Ali Nejad, the voice of NBC's "Poker
After Dark," functions as the tournament director while providing
occasional commentary, and Megan Abrigo, a regular on NBC's "Deal
or No Deal" where she is best known as Briefcase Model #6, serves
as the hostess.
With this new show NBC, the network behind the popular "Poker
After Dark" and the annual "National Heads-Up Poker
Championship," continues its dedication to providing the best
poker programming on television.

·
Patrik Antonius – Feared high-stakes cash game player

"A
DOG NAMED CHRISTMAS," A NEW "HALLMARK HALL OF FAME"
PRESENTATION STARRING BRUCE GREENWOOD, NOEL FISHER AND LINDA EMOND,
HAS STARTED PRODUCTION IN SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA FOR FUTURE BROADCAST ON
CBS
New
York, N.Y., July 22nd, 2009.
A DOG NAMED
CHRISTMAS, a new "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation
starring Bruce Greenwood (the newest "Star Trek" movie and
"Thirteen Days"), Noel Fisher ("The Riches,"
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit") and Tony Award
nominee Linda Emond ("Life (x) 3," "Gossip Girl")
has started production in Saskatchewan, Canada for future broadcast on
the CBS Television Network. This holiday movie tells the tale of a
developmentally challenged young man, with a penchant for caring for
animals in need, who sets out to convince his family - and their whole
rural community - to participate in a local shelter's inaugural
"Adopt a Dog for Christmas Program."
Todd
McCray (Fisher), a responsible and developmentally challenged
20-year-old, lives on a farm in Kansas with his loving parents, George
(Greenwood) and Mary Ann (Emond). Both Mary Ann and George are
forever inspired and impressed by the upbeat Todd, who assists with
numerous chores on the farm and is known for regularly rescuing and
nursing wounded wild animals back to health. George often
describes Todd as having "his own way of thinking about
things." However, Todd's way of thinking ends up clashing with
George's when a radio promotion for the local animal shelter's
first-ever "Adopt a Dog for Christmas Program" - which
entails caring for a dog during Christmas week, with the option of
keeping the dog for good - creates a keen desire in Todd to adopt a
lonely pup for the holiday.
Though George stubbornly opposes the idea, Todd's special gifts of
persuasion result in their bringing home a yellow Labrador, whom Todd
names "Christmas" and bonds with immediately. Todd
soon makes it his mission to ensure that all of the shelter's numerous
caged dogs are brought into friendly homes for the holiday, and he uses
creative and persistent means of inspiring the families in his
community to do their part.
A
DOG NAMED CHRISTMAS is a Hallmark Hall of Fame production. Brent
Shields ("The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler") is
executive producer; Peter Werner ("Front of the Class") is
the director; Jenny Wingfield ("The Man in the Moon") wrote
the script based on the novel by Greg Kincaid.

The special will show highlights from the CMA Music Festival held June
11-14 in Nashville. On- and off-stage segments and day-in-the-life
vignettes showcasing the personalities and lifestyles of fan favorites
will be presented:
As one of the main attractions at CMA Music Festival, Jason Aldean's
skyrocketing popularity is evident in his legions of female fans.
Later, at his nightclub performance, Aldean welcomes them - declaring
"Ladies Night at the CMA Music Festival" and treating to
them a performance of his hit, "She's Country," that segues
to the performance at LP field.
Viewers look in on Brad Paisley during a quiet moment on his tour bus
speaking about his fans, then encountering hundreds of them as they
greet him outside his bus. His personal recollections then segue to
Paisley and his band electrifying a standing-room-only crowd at Fuel
club with his hit song, "Then," and to LP Field, where he
sings "American Saturday Night."
Kellie Pickler's off-stage persona is captured as she spends the day
with fans, charming them with her quick wit and sweet disposition.
Pickler's admirers join her for some shopping at famous Nashville
stores such as Ernest Tubb's record shop, where she signs autographs
and gives some lucky fans her own CD's, then stops by Mike's Soda Shop
to taste "Kellie Pickler" ice cream. Later that night she
performs "Best Days of Your Life."
The special takes a candid look at a hectic and fun day-in-the-life of
Julianne Hough, from getting ready at home to the convention center to
a slew of press interviews, among others with "Good Morning
America" and "All My Children's" Cameron Mathison. She
then heads to sound check and wardrobe changes, all the while meeting
fans along the way.
Throughout the special, Kellie Pickler introduces interviews to some
of the Festival's biggest performers in this multi-star segment.
Darius Rucker, Brooks & Dunn, Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney,
Sugarland and Martina McBride offer celebrity insights and share their
personal stories from the road, home and tours. Then Taylor Swift
answers submitted questions from her six biggest fans, and later
surprises them in a meet and greet.
The annual CMA Music Festival is unlike any other, with four days
filled with more than 100 hours of live music, 30 hours of autograph
signings by Country Music's biggest names and up and comers, hundreds
of artists and celebrities, and a party list of thousands of avid
fans. This is the fifth time ABC will broadcast this special - which
invites the whole country to America's biggest Country Music bash -
since the original Fan Fair(r) was launched in 1972. This year an
average of 56,000 fans attended each day of CMA Music Festival, its
biggest turnout yet.

QUOTABLES

"Sarah Palin said that when she leaves the governor's office, she
is open to campaigning for some Democrats. So that's great news…for
Republicans."
"Joe Biden's wife Jill is having surgery today to relieve pain in
her shoulder. Apparently, it's a repetitive stress injury from doing
this (elbowing gesture) every time Joe says something stupid."
"This weekend, several people were seriously injured during the
Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. Turns out, unleashing angry bulls
onto a crowded city street… dangerous."
"A same-sex "penguin couple" at the San Francisco Zoo
has broken up. It's true. Harry and Pepper have been nesting together
for 6 years. But they do this all the time: they split up, they get
back together, they split up... I think Pepper just likes the
drama."
"A new study shows that survivors of the 1918 flu pandemic are
immune to the swine flu. Which is great news – now we know that
"the cure for swine flu" is being 110 years old."
"Today is National French Fries Day. Hopefully, this will help
get the word out about French Fries."

trying to hide it in his underwear. The officer said - "Do you
have anything to say in your defense?"
"Beer nuts!""

sentence. He just wants to do the time - and then get on with his life
as a 221-year-old."

erectile dysfunction drug – from a pharmaceutical warehouse. Cops
went on a high-speed chase…. not right away - but later, when the
moment was right for them."
