CONAN O'BRIEN SUCCEEDS JAY LENO AS HOST OF LATE-NIGHT TELEVISION'S PREEMINENT SERIES, NBC'S 'THE TONIGHT SHOW,' IN JUNE 2009

BEVERLY HILLS, Cal. July 21, 2008.             Conan O'Brien, the dominant late-night host at 12:35 a.m. (ET) for the past 14 seasons, will succeed Jay Leno as host of the preeminent series on late-night television, NBC's "The Tonight Show," in June of 2009. Beginning in Spring 2009, Jimmy Fallon will step in as the "Late Night" host. The announcement was made today by Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios and Marc Graboff, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" will begin on Monday, June 1, 2009 (11:35 p.m.-12:35 a.m. ET) with Leno's last "Tonight Show" telecast airing Friday, May 29, 2009.

"'The Tonight Show' has a remarkable history rich in tradition. We're proud of each and every show Jay has shared with America as we look forward to Conan carrying on that outstanding tradition next year," said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night and Primetime Series, NBC Entertainment. "We also can't wait for Jimmy to showcase his winning style following Conan. Jay has left his personal stamp on 'The Tonight Show' for what will be 17 years. He is enormously creative, generous and professional."

"The Tonight Show" continues to be the most dominant late-night institution in television history. Since it first premiered on September 27, 1954 with Steve Allen, "The Tonight Show" has had just four permanent hosts, including Leno. Allen, host of the then titled "Tonight," eventually left late night to start his own primetime variety series on NBC. Jack Paar premiered on July 29, 1957. On October 1, 1962, Johnny Carson stepped on stage for day one of his tenure as host of "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." Leno, who began guest-hosting "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" in September 1987, became host of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on May 25, 1992. O'Brien joined NBC as a writer on "Saturday Night Live" in 1988 and premiered as host of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on September 13, 1993.

"The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" will originate from Stage 1 at Universal Studios and will be produced by Universal Media Studios. Jeff Ross is the executive producer.

ROCK LEGEND GENE SIMMONS PASSES JUDGMENT ON "JINGLES," A NEW REALITY COMPETITION SERIES CURRENTLY IN PRODUCTION FOR CBS

Los Angeles, Cal., 07.17.2008.            The irrepressible Gene Simmons, rocker, reality TV star, marketing demagogue and teacher, has been tapped to judge JINGLES, the new competition reality series seeking the next great jingle composer.  The show, from executive producer Mark Burnett, is currently in production and will premiere later this year on the CBS Television Network.

Simmons will be joined on JINGLES by his advisory panel, advertising and marketing gurus Linda Kaplan Thaler and Julie Roehm.  These opinionated, high-power executives will share their real world expertise and deliver candid commentaries on the performances.  It is Simmons, however, who will ultimately determine whether the contestants will be eliminated.  Former "American Idol" contestant and TV Guide Network host Kimberly Caldwell will serve as the show's host.

Each week on JINGLES, contestants will be challenged to write and perform jingles about anything and everything - from a food, toy, health or beauty aid, to a team fight song, TV show theme or an update to a classic jingle.  To survive, they will have to convince Simmons and his panel that they have the musical skills, lyrical talent and sheer wit to move on to the next round.  The winner will walk away with a Grand Prize of $100,000 and an advertising contract.

EMMY NOMINEE AMY POEHLER TO STAR IN NBC'S NEW COMEDY SERIES FROM GREG DANIELS AND MIKE SCHUR, EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS OF NBC'S 'THE OFFICE'

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. July 21, 2008.             Emmy Award nominee Amy Poehler (NBC's "Saturday Night Live," "Baby Mama") will star in NBC's new comedy series from Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, executive producers of NBC's "The Office", it was announced today by Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.

"Amy is the ideal comedic talent to star in this new series from the executive producers of 'The Office," said Silverman. "We've been hotly pursuing her for some time to make the transition to primetime. She is at the top of her game as her starring role in "Baby Mama" and her recent Emmy nomination show."

"This show suddenly got a hundred percent easier," said Daniels. "Amy shines in everything she does. She can make even bad material funny, and I know we can write bad material."

"I worked with Amy at 'Saturday Night Live,'" said Schur, "and she's one of the funniest, most talented people I've ever met. She is a terrible human being, but I am more than willing to overlook her many, many character flaws for the chance to work with her again."

Howard Klein also is an executive producer of the series.

Poehler was nominated last week for her performance on "Saturday Night Live" as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She just finished her seventh season on "SNL" and her fourth in the co-anchor seat of "Weekend Update."

Renowned as "a brilliantly inventive sketch comedian," (Entertainment Weekly, November 19, 2005), Poehler boasts an impressive arsenal of outrageous characters from the hyperactive Caitlin and Amber, the one-legged reality show contestant, to the manic host of "Good Morning Meth." Poehler has also contributed memorable impressions of Kelly Ripa, Avril Lavigne, Sharon Osbourne, Paula Abdul, Senator Hillary Clinton, Sharon Stone and Michael Jackson.

Poehler joined the "SNL" cast from the Upright Citizens Brigade, a sketch/improv troupe originally formed in Chicago. Poehler and the U.C.B. relocated to New York where they had a sketch show on Comedy Central for three seasons on which she was both a writer and performer. In addition, they opened a theater currently regarded as the premier sketch/improv comedy venue in New York City. Poehler and the U.C.B. was featured in "A.S.S.S.S.C.A.T.: Improv," an improvised comedy special on Bravo.

Recently, Poehler appeared in the feature film "Baby Mama" with "SNL" alum Tina Fey (NBC's "30 Rock") and in "Blades of Glory," alongside another "SNL" alum, Will Ferrell, as well as Will Arnett (her real-life husband) of "Arrested Development" and Jon Heder of "Napoleon Dynamite." In addition, she appeared on the big screen in "Tenacious D in 'The Pick of Destiny'" with Jack Black; "Mr Woodcock" opposite Billy Bob Thornton and Seann William Scott; "Fast Track" with Zach Braff, Jason Bateman and Amanda Peet; and "Southland Tales" for director Richard Kelly ("Donnie Darko"). She also voiced "Snow White" in the hit "Shrek the Third."

Poehler could be seen in the hit comedy "Mean Girls" opposite Lindsay Lohan and Fey. Her other credits include "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo," "Wet Hot American Summer" and "Envy." Her upcoming film is "Spring Breakdown."

Poehler has made memorable appearances on television, ranging from "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" (as recurring character Stacey, Andy Richter's little sister) to "Arrested Development" (playing the wife to Arnett), "Wonder Showzen" and "Undeclared." She also was a voice on "O'Grady" and "The Simpsons."

The new series is a production of Universal Media Studios and Deedle-Dee Productions.

NBC ANNOUNCES PLAN TO CONTINUE 'INFRONT' PRESENTATIONS FOR ADVERTISERS

BEVERLY HILLS, Cal. July 21, 2008.              As a result of the overwhelmingly favorable response from advertisers to their "InFront" scheduling presentation last April, NBC today announced plans to host a similar event in April 2009, over a month before the traditional Upfront week.

"Our decision to hold a series of earlier more intimate meetings with advertisers this past spring resulted in profound new partnerships, deeper engagement with our clients and a very successful upfront for NBC," said Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "Our partners and us want to build on this innovative strategy and continue evolving the broadcast model."

"Giving our advertising clients an early look at a 52-week schedule is a better way for both of us to gain a competitive edge," said Marc Graboff, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. "We are going to respond to their positive feedback and set the pace again in 2009 with an even better version of the InFront that focuses on their advertising needs."

This client-centric approach to the presentation will again include the announcement of a year-round programming schedule in April followed by a series of one-on-one client meetings in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The process is designed to give advertisers several key advantages, including a more comprehensive way in which to plan their marketing strategies for the year, the ability to coordinate their involvement in major events and to involve their brands more closely with the content of our shows.

"Our strategy of getting ahead of the market and involving our clients earlier in the process couldn't have been more successful," said Mike Pilot, President, NBC Universal Sales & Marketing. "Not only did our clients appreciate the approach and our desire to be more collaborative, they were also able to execute on some meaningful integrations and marketing opportunities that were the right fit for their brands."

At stake during each challenge is the annual salary of the job being performed. As each of them throw fear out the window with an "I can do that attitude," the contestants are judged on logging high in the Oregon forest, extreme fishing in the Bering Sea and oil drilling on a Texas range, just to name a few. Each week, one contestant will be sent home as they are judged by their successes and failures.

NBC'S 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' FRONT-LOADS THE FALL

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. July 20, 2008. Fresh from its six primetime Emmy nominations, NBC's comedy institution "Saturday Night Live" will make an early return this fall to capitalize on the hotly contested Presidential race, extending its traditional 20-episode season to 22.

After making a splash this spring during the Democratic primaries, "Saturday Night Live" will return to the air with 10 new live broadcasts this fall with a Presidential Bash special prior to Election Day, Monday, November 3 (9:30-11 p.m. ET).

Dubbed "TV's Funniest and Most Influential Political Player" by Entertainment Weekly, "SNL" recently featured appearances by Senators Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama and the show's political sketches became talking points at the Democratic debates and in the media.

"'Saturday Night Live' always reflects what people are talking about. This is especially true during an election year," noted Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night and Primetime Series, NBC Entertainment. "This fall, we're giving the audience what they clearly want."

"SNL" will make its 34th season premiere on Saturday, September 13, kicking off four live shows in a row, a rare practice that generated momentum for the show this past spring when the show returned after the WGA strike-imposed hiatus. All told, seven all-new "SNL's" will air on Saturdays prior to the election.

In addition to the revved-up Saturday schedule, "SNL" is ready for primetime with "Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday." Three live primetime half-hours will air October 9, 16 and 23 at 9:30 p.m. ET. These primetime special editions will be anchored by the show's signature "Weekend Update." This marks a return to the NBC Thursday night lineup for "SNL," which produced similar live "Update"-centered broadcasts in 2001.

Finally, on the eve of Election Day, "SNL" will present its quadrennial political special "Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash 2008" (Monday, November 3, 9:30-11 p.m. ET). The special will feature all-new material and a look back at some of "SNL's" recent political satire including Fred Armisen's Barack Obama and Amy Poehler's Hillary Clinton as well as a selection of Presidential satire from Chevy Chase's Gerald Ford to Will Ferrell's George W. Bush. In addition, in some cases, appearances from the actual candidates are featured in the special as in 2000 when the Presidential Bash boasted a sketch featuring candidates Gore and Bush.

Hosts and musical guests for the Saturday shows will be announced at a later date.

MAGID MEDIA LABS PROVES THAT CBS ONLINE VIDEO STREAMING DELIVERS YOUNGER AUDIENCES TO ITS SHOWS

NEW YORK, N.Y., July 21st, 2008.              CBS Interactive today announced the results of an ongoing study of nearly 50,000 individuals who have watched full episodes streamed online across the CBS Audience Network. The study, conducted by Magid Media Labs, underscores three main findings: CBS's video streaming of full-episodes attracts a younger audience; online viewers are incremental to broadcast viewers, and online video streaming is a net positive for CBS because it drives Web viewers to television.

Key findings of the CBS Audience Network study by Magid Media Labs include:

  • The median age of those streaming full episodes of CBS programming online is 38 years.
  • Having full episodes available online is complementary to network broadcasts in that it delivers CBS a net positive audience, with 35% of the online video-watching audience saying they are now more likely to watch CBS programming on television because they connected with the shows online.
  • On average, nearly half of CBS's online video streaming audience is incremental, with 46% saying they only or mostly watch online. A majority of these same viewers say having the content available online is not a factor in their decision not to watch on TV, thus making their online viewing additive.

"The results are clear: by making their programming available through the CBS Audience Network, CBS has expanded the reach and audience for its content without impacting their traditional television viewership," said Jaime Spencer, Director, Magid Media Labs. "In fact, nearly half of CBS's online audience is composed of viewers who only or mostly watch online, which opens the door to a net gain of 21 percent of Web-only viewers who are now more likely to watch TV because they connected with the show online."

"This is a new world where people can watch anything, anywhere, anytime, and on any screen," said David Botkin, Senior Vice President, Research & Audience Analytics, CBS Interactive. "These findings confirm what we've believed all along - online viewing is complementary to broadcast viewing, so making our programming more accessible to people drives awareness, interest, and ratings both online and on-air. In addition, getting 50,000 of our online users to participate in such a survey is a testament to the passion they have for CBS programming as well as to the hundreds of partners making up the CBS Audience Network who distribute our content in an open, non-exclusive manner."

In addition to these findings, 68 percent of respondents said that the CBS Audience Network had the "right amount" of advertising on the site. Overall, 50 percent of respondents correctly recalled the brand of an ad they saw during their viewing experience, and 18 percent of those who recalled an ad said that they were more influenced to make a purchase decision, and purchase intent was even higher (31 percent) for certain  items like consumer package goods.
