JAY LENO COMES TO PRIMETIME ON NBC

Universal City, Ca., December 9th, 2008.
Jay Leno will host a new comedy/talk show on NBC five nights a week in primetime, beginning in the fall of 2009. The show will originate from Burbank, Calif., and will air Monday through Friday, 10-11 p.m./9-10 p.m. CT. The announcement was made today by Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff, Co-Chairmen, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. This show will be the first-ever entertainment program to be stripped across primetime on broadcast network television.

"As broadcast television continues to change, success demands a new paradigm," said Jeff Zucker, President and CEO, NBC Universal. "For the past few years, we've been very vocal about two things: Transforming broadcast television for today's media landscape, and keeping Jay at NBC. In this one announcement we have done both. It's great for NBC, for our viewers, and for our advertisers."

"Jay has played a major role in defining NBC's brand of high-quality entertainment," said Silverman. "The 10 o'clock hour will bring Jay a whole new audience and provide a great lead-in both for our local affiliates and for Conan O'Brien, the next great host of The Tonight Show."

"Clearly, today's viewers have an appetite for live, topical programming, and that's what we're bringing to primetime," said Graboff. "This innovative deal plays to NBC's strengths as the late-night leader for more than 14 years. The network will be home to three of the biggest names in TV: Jay, Conan and Jimmy."

"This is the greatest all-star comedy lineup in the history of television," said Rick Ludwin, Executive Vice President, Late Night and Primetime Series, NBC Entertainment. "And it happened because topical comedy is in the DNA of NBC and has been for decades."

Leno will sign off as host of The Tonight Show on May 29, 2009. His new show will showcase many of the features that have made Leno America's late-night leader for more than a dozen years. Signature elements will include his opening monologue and well-known comedy segments "Headlines," "Jaywalking" and "Battle of the Jaywalking All-Stars."

As previously announced, Conan O'Brien will take over The Tonight Show hosting duties on June 1, 2009, broadcasting from the state-of-the-art studio currently under construction on the Universal lot. O'Brien will continue an unmatched late-night legacy that includes Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, and, for the last 16 years, Jay Leno. Jimmy Fallon will assume the role of host of Late Night on March 2, 2009.

Since becoming host of The Tonight Show on May 25, 1992, Leno has experienced numerous highlights, including winning the 1995 Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy, Variety or Music Series. Most recently, Leno was nominated for an Emmy in 2008 for his popular internet show "Jay Leno's Garage," which allows fans a peak into his famous garage by logging on to http://www.jaylenosgarage.com. Prior to becoming host of Tonight, Jay had been the exclusive guest host on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson since September 1987. He first appeared as a guest on the show March 2, 1977, and he made numerous additional appearances on Tonight as well as on NBC's former program Late Night with David Letterman.

One of the country's premier comedians, Jay has performed thousands of comedy shows around the United States for the past 20 years. He remains passionate about performing in front of live audiences and appears regularly in Las Vegas, on college campuses around the United States, and in other venues.

Jay has authored two New York Times best-selling children's books and has published four versions of Headlines, the compilation of books and desk calendars featuring his favorite funny newspaper headlines, and Police Blotter, a book with more humorous newspaper clips involving police stories (book proceeds go to various charities).

THE TONIGHT SHOW TRANSCRIPT

Universal City, Ca., Published: December 9th, 2008.               Below please find the transcript of Jay's comments regarding today's announcement of his new 10:00 pm primetime show.

(During Monologue)

JAY LENO: Thank you very much. Welcome to "The Tonight Show." Nice to have you. Excuse me a second. Before we get started, I wanted to tell the stagehands something. Hey, guys? Guys, leave those boxes. I'm not going anywhere. You know, we're staying. You know, we're staying.

(Applause.)

As a matter of fact, we're going to be on [that first part was garbled] at 10:00 p.m. Well, you know, it's interesting. A lot of people were shocked when they heard. Not that I was moving to prime time, but that NBC still had a prime time.

(Laughter.)

We're going to be -- well, thank you. Thank you. We're going to be doing a new show in the fall. We'll start at 10:00 p.m. right after the last hour of "The Today Show."

(Laughter.)

See, the way they're gonna reschedule, it's going to be all talk. Oh, man. Well, as you may have heard, there were rumblings that I was leaving NBC and going to ABC. Let me tell you something. Those were nothing but rumors started by a disgruntled employee: me.

(Laughter.)

Another thing, and I say this quite seriously, you know, I didn't know I was going to stay with NBC, but remembered something my parents always told me. They said, "Whatever you do in life, always try to come in fourth." And that's really --

(Laughter.)

And that's where NBC is. We've been in fourth place for so long, by golly, we want to stay there. I'll tell you how sneaky show business is. Do you know what CBS announced today? Did you year about this? They're moving "Letterman" to 9:59. I couldn't believe it. Couldn't believe it. You know, I had a lot of options. I considered going back to my first love, the theater. You know, the theater is my first love.

KEVIN EUBANKS: Oh, wow, what a loss.

JAY LENO: As you may know, I had a very successful run on Broadway earlier this year.

KEVIN EUBANKS: You did?

JAY LENO: Yes, I did. Show my clip from Broadway. I was quite proud of the work I did there.

(Clip shown.)

(Applause.)

///

(Comments during second commercial rejoin)

JAY LENO: I should explain what went on today. We made a deal to stay on here at NBC. I'm very excited about that.

(Applause.)

We're going to go -- we're going to do a show at ten o'clock. It won't be "The Tonight Show." "The Tonight Show" will be Conan's. It will be similar. I'll be 20 pounds lighter. Kevin will have hair. It's going to be a little different, but we're going to be primetime. We've got to clean it up a little.

KEVIN EUBANKS: That sounds good. If it's going to give me hair --

JAY LENO: It will give you hair.

KEVIN EUBANKS: -- I'm there.

JAY LENO: And we thought it would be interesting. This is kind of new, uncharted territory. Nobody's done a show similar to this at ten o'clock. People say -- I asked NBC, "Do some research." And they said, "Yeah, people would like to see something like this earlier." We're going to try it. If it. For the last 17 years, it's been a privilege to say, "Please stay tuned for Conan." And I'm glad I'll be able to do that again because people think, you know --

(Applause.)

Conan is a great guy. Conan will do a wonderful job on "The Tonight Show" as well. And I think it will be fun to say, "Stay tuned for Conan coming up right after the news."

CONAN O'BRIEN'S COMMENTS ON JAY LENO'S STAYING AT NBC

New York, N.Y., December 9th, 2008.             Below are comments made by Conan O'Brien on the recent announcement that Jay Leno will stay at NBC.

After the monologue, Conan teased," When we come back, we're going to talk about something in the news that affects me personally".

After returning from the first commercial break, O'Brien said: "I have to talk about something that's happening in my life. I woke up this morning and I saw something on the front page of the paper that absolutely shocked me. I was stunned and I have to say I didn't see this coming and I just had to share it with you for a second. Check it out ladies and gentlemen – today's New York Post (he holds up the paper and the camera zooms in past the NY Post's front-page Jay Leno headline to the weather). It says here showers and 51 degrees. 51 degrees in December?!? It was 20 degrees yesterday, that's crazy! Check this out -- Daily News (again the camera zooms in past the Leno headline to the weather) 49 degrees? Well which is it? 49 or 51? Let's get our stories straight here, people! This is insanity!"

"Let's talk about this on a serious note for just one moment, I've had many people calling me today saying, "What is all this? "What's happening?" Jay Leno is going to be going in at 10:00 on NBC. I wanted to make something very clear here on the show this evening. I've known about this for a while. I've talked a lot about this with Jay. I am thrilled. I am absolutely thrilled that Jay is staying at NBC. He has been my lead-in on this program for 16 seasons. He is a fantastic lead-in. He is a huge part of my success. I am indebted to Jay Leno. And I love the idea that that relationship is going to continue. He is going to be my lead-in continuing, I hope, for a long, long time. So congratulations to Jay Leno. (APPLAUSE) This is a happy ending. It's very nice. We're thrilled for him and we're thrilled for everybody at the Tonight Show. Also I've talked it over with my producer and that means I can keep doing my Jay Leno impression."

JIMMY FALLON REVEALS NEW HOUSE BAND AND STUDIO LOCATION ON FIRST VIDEO BLOG

New York, N.Y., December 9th, 2008.             In the first installment of his nightly video blog on www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com, Jimmy Fallon introduced viewers to an early look at many of the new elements of his upcoming foray as host of "Late Night."

In the blog, Fallon revealed that critically acclaimed Grammy winning hip-hop band The Roots will become Fallon's house band when "Late Night" makes its broadcast debut. Named one of the twenty greatest live acts in the world by Rolling Stone, the Roots will bring their eclectic hip-hop sound to the new "Late Night."

"We are really excited to be working with Jimmy on the new 'Late Night,' said Roots founder Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson, "It's also an honor to be working with an icon like Lorne Michaels. We are looking forward to becoming part of the history of 30 Rock".

Executive produced by Lorne Michaels, Fallon's "Late Night" will depart from David Letterman and Conan O'Brien's Studio 6A and cross the hall to Studio 6B in NBC's 30 Rockefeller Plaza headquarters in New York.

6B has a long history of comedy within its walls. 6B was the New York home of the first ten years of Johnny Carson's unprecedented "Tonight Show" tenure as well as for his predecessor Jack Paar, who made television history – in 6B – by quitting his own show on the air after NBC censored a joke the night before. In its days as a studio for NBC Radio, it hosted such comedy legends as Bob Hope and Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis. It housed the first late night show in television history "Broadway Open House" in 1950 as well as the legendary "Texaco Star Theater" starring Milton Berle. In addition, it was from Studio 6B that the infamous game show "Twenty One" (the basis of the film "Quiz Show") originated, as well as where the legendary Ernie Kovacs created innovative comedy on his groundbreaking daytime show.

THE 31ST ANNUAL KENNEDY CENTER HONORS will Feature Caroline Kennedy As Host for Sixth Consecutive Year

New York, N.Y., December 9th, 2008.             Eminent artist friends and peers of this year's six honorees converged in Washington, D.C. last night (Dec. 7) to present entertaining and heartfelt tributes at THE 31ST ANNUAL KENNEDY CENTER HONORS, an entertainment special to be broadcast Tuesday, Dec. 30 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, with Caroline Kennedy as host for the sixth consecutive year.  This marks the 31st anniversary of this acclaimed special, which has been broadcast on CBS each year since its debut in 1978.  George Stevens, Jr. is head writer and producer for the 31st consecutive year.  Michael Stevens is co-producer.  Morgan Freeman, George Jones, Barbra Streisand, Twyla Tharp, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey were all present at the black-tie gala in their honor.

This annual event recognizes recipients for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts in dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures and television.  Keeping with tradition, the roster of performers and presenters remains secret prior to the gala, and a short biographical film is featured during each honoree's tribute.

Performers and presenters included Beyoncι, Jack Black, Garth Brooks, Glenn Close, Chris Cornell, Clint Eastwood, Honeyboy Edwards, Marcelo Gomes, Dave Grohl, Nathan Gunn, Alan Jackson, B.B. King, Bettye Lavette, Shelby Lynne, Idina Menzel, Ne-Yo, Kelli O'Hara, Brad Paisley, Luciana Paris, Pinetop Perkins, Queen Latifah, Joss Stone, Koko Taylor, Rob Thomas, Lily Tomlin, Randy Travis and Denzel Washington.  Also, First Lady Laura Bush made a special appearance in honor of George Jones.

President and Mrs. George W. Bush, Vice President and Mrs. Richard B. Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are seated with the honorees in the presidential box in the Opera House of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, after having just attended the traditional White House reception for the honorees.

Host Caroline Kennedy commenced the festivities by quoting her father, President John F. Kennedy, who said, "I see little of more importance to the future of our country and our civilization than full recognition of the place of the artist."  She described the six 2008 honorees as "a dance-mad girl from Indiana who - when push came to shove - kicked down the wall between high art and low to stage her own revolution in dance; two rockers from working class London who emerged as founding fathers of the British invasion, talking for their g-g-g-generation; a funny girl from Brooklyn whose outsized talent as a singer, actress and director let her put her stamp on the way we ...are; a lanky son of the Mississippi delta whose ease and honesty on the screen paved his path to ‘Glory'; and a honky-tonkin' boy from East Texas whose tear stained voice and raw emotion made him the King of Country."

Multiple Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Denzel Washington kicked off Morgan Freeman's homage, reminiscing about how he first met Morgan Freeman when they both appeared in a production of "Coriolanus" at Shakespeare in the Park in New York City, then later had the privilege of working alongside him in the critically acclaimed feature film "Glory."  About Freeman's work in "Glory," Washington stated, "In front of the camera I saw an actor who had a God-given sense of timing and a perfect ear for nuance...So we have this man that I'm proud to call my friend.  He lives on the same patch of land in Mississippi that his grandparents worked - and where he spent much of his childhood.  He has a 126-acre ranch with peach trees and horses.  He sails his boat by himself to the Bahamas and pilots himself around the country in his own plane.  And he still manages to make two or three pictures a year.  Morgan is very much his own man.  Now he has his own motion picture company.  It's called Revelation Entertainment.  Revelation's motto is: ‘Enlighten...Express Heart...Glorify the Human Experience.' My friend - that's what you've been doing for the last forty years - and I am so proud of you tonight."

Multiple Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, director and 2000 Kennedy Center Honoree Clint Eastwood, who directed Freeman in the Academy Award-winning film "Million Dollar Baby," took to the stage to introduce a musical tribute to Freeman - a Delta Blues performance by some of the most famous musicians of the genre - Grammy winners Koko Taylor (The Queen of the Blues), Pinetop Perkins and Honeyboy Edwards - together presenting a soulful rendition of "I'm a Woman."  This was followed by the rousing song "Let the Good Times Roll," sung by 1995 Kennedy Center Honoree B.B. King.

Calling her "American's most influential choreographer," Academy Award nominee, Golden Globe Award and Multiple Emmy Award-winning actress Lily Tomlin paid tribute to Twyla Tharp, saying, "As a young choreographer, Twyla had an idea that dance could be more than the labels that had been pasted on it - ballet, modern, jazz.  Those were just words.  Twyla saw dance everywhere she looked: in a crowd of people crossing the street, in a boy tossing a newspaper from a bike, in a reach for a glass on a shelf, a step over a crack in the sidewalk.  This is a woman who heard the Beach Boys...and made a ballet.  Who saw a ballet danced to Mozart and thought - what would it look like danced to Jelly Roll Morton? ...Over four decades, she has created more than 135 dances and set them spinning in parks and museums, in movies and on Broadway.  Dance that defies definition and won't stand still long enough to be labeled."

Michael Kaiser, President of the Kennedy Center and a personal friend and colleague of Twyla Tharp from his time as Executive Director of American Ballet Theater, was next to sing her praises.  "Twyla had a reputation for being demanding, for being hard on administrators and for being unwilling to compromise.  And all of these are true.  But what I came to learn was that Twyla was challenging because she would never compromise on quality.  She is an artist of great integrity and of immense talent and of a Puritanical work ethic.  She was in the studio rehearsing yesterday and she will be back in the studio rehearsing tomorrow morning.  Twyla taught me the difference between producing a ballet and producing art."

On that note, Kaiser ended his acknowledgements by introducing American Ballet Theater dancers Marcelo Gomes and Luciana Paris, performing Tharp's masterpiece, "Sinatra Suite."

Golden Globe nominee Jack Black shared how his childhood was profoundly affected by the music of the evening's next honorees, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of the legendary rock  band The Who.  "When I was 10 years old I fell in love with The Who.  I saw the film 'Tommy' on cable television and despite Jack Nicholson's heinous rendition of ‘Go to the Mirror'...I was deeply moved by the music and story.  I wasn't deaf, dumb or blind but I could relate to ‘Tommy.'  I, too, wanted to be seen, felt and healed.  I had a supportive family, but growing up can be tough no matter what your upbringing...and no other band had the courage or sensitivity to write those kind of emotionally raw songs...They played with real passion as if their lives depended on it...as though it might be the last day of their lives.  They were legends in a time of legends.  On the battlefield of rock they went toe to toe with the likes of Hendrix and emerged unscathed...triumphant dragon slayers of emotionality."

Townshend and Daltrey's musical tribute began with Grammy winning recording artist Joss Stone with a refreshing take on "My Generation."  Next up was multi Grammy winner Chris Cornell singing "Won't Get Fooled Again," followed by the "Great Lady of Soul," Bettye LaVette, with a moving rendition of "Love Reign O'er Me."  Next was the famous song "Who Are You" as re-interpreted by multi Grammy winning Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl.  Closing the performance was Rob Thomas, Grammy winning lead singer of the rock band Matchbox Twenty, singing "Baba O'Riley."

In a very special appearance, First Lady Laura Bush came to the stage to pay tribute to one of her favorite singers of all time, country legend and 2008 honoree George Jones.  "‘Walk through this world with me,' sang George Jones, in one of the many beautiful numbers that my husband and I love to hear him sing," says Mrs. Bush.  "Most of our lives, and throughout our life together, we have enjoyed this man's music and his very distinctive style.  When I was still in school, my friends and I must have put a thousand quarters in the jukebox listening to George Jones belting out 'The Race is On' - over and over and over.  There's no getting tired of a singer like him. And you don't have to be a country fan to hear the sound of musical greatness in George Jones - the rhythm, the range, and above all, that rich, one-of-a-kind voice."

The First Lady's homage concluded, "There is endless, timeless appeal in the songs of this marvelously talented man.  And it's so nice to see that George Jones is still recording and still filling concert halls across America, with his dear wife Nancy alongside him every step of the way.  As for me, I've been very lucky to walk through this world with my own George.  And in that walk we've heard few sounds more lovely than the voice of George Jones.  It's a beautiful gift to the world, and it will always bring back wonderful memories to us all."

As part of the musical homage for Jones, Grammy winner Brad Paisley crooned "Bartender's Blues," accompanied by the Rob Mathes band.  Next was multi Grammy winner Randy Travis with "I'm A One Woman Man," followed by another Grammy winner, Alan Jackson, with "He Stopped Loving Her Today."  Multi Grammy-winning superstar Garth Brooks rocked the house with The Possum Medley: "White Lightning," "The Grand Tour" and "The Race is On."  Finally, Grammy winner Shelby Lynne concluded the tribute with a poignant rendition of "Amazing Grace."

Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe Award-winner Queen Latifah opened the tribute to Barbra  Streisand, stating, "This is a story about crossing over: crossing over the boundaries that make some people think that there's only just so far some people can go.  Barbra Streisand jumped her first boundary when she took the subway from Brooklyn to Broadway in 1962.  And she's been jumping over barriers ever since."  She later added, "Barbra threw out the book when it came to a standardized idea of beauty.  But she also wrote a new rulebook - one that said women in entertainment - that's Women with a capital W - can stand up confidently and make clear that we can do a lot of things.  We're not just this kind of singer.  Or that kind of actress.  We don't just do what the boys want us to do.  We can do it all.  We can sing. We can act. We can produce.  And we can lead.  Not just the people who are working with us, but all the girls who have dreams like you did."

Academy Award nominee, multiple Golden Globe Award and multiple Emmy Award-winning actress Glenn Close then took the stage, speaking about her personal experience working with Streisand on the television movie "Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story."  Close said, "We know about the voice.  I would like to talk about the vision.  Margarethe Cammermeyer was the highest ranking officer in the U.S. Army ever to be discharged because of her sexual preference.  She had sought high-level security clearance because she hoped to become a general.  During the course of the interview, she had admitted to being a lesbian.  As a highly decorated officer, who had believed the military was her life's calling, she was trying to fight back.

That is when Barbra Streisand read about Colonel Cammermeyer's situation and decided this was a story of injustice that needed to be told... ‘Serving in Silence' won three Emmy Awards and the Peabody Award...the movie became a watershed for the gay and lesbian community because they finally had a role model they could embrace and be proud of."  Close concluded, "Barbra's choices as an actor and a filmmaker tell us a lot about who she is.  'Funny Girl,' 'The Way We Were,' 'Yentl.'  Fanny Brice, Katie Morosky and Yentl are women who are fully engaged in their times - who are headstrong and provocative.  Remind you of anyone?"

Streisand's musical tribute began with Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel singing "Don't  Rain On My Parade."  Next, multi Grammy Award-winner Beyoncι sang a touching rendition of "The Way We Were," followed by Grammy Award-winner Ne-Yo crooning "Lover, Come Back To Me" while accompanied by several suave dancers in the background.  Next, host Caroline Kennedy returned to the stage, saying, "The Kennedy Center Honors tradition is rich in history.  The great Leonard Bernstein was a 1980 Kennedy Center Honoree.  He collaborated with 1993 Honoree Stephen Sondheim.  Tonight their music links them to Barbra Streisand - with the Bernstein-Sondheim classic that Ms. Streisand has sung so beautifully, so often - "Somewhere" from "West Side Story," here are Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara and world renowned opera singer Nathan Gunn.  As O'Hara and Gunn took the stage, an orchestra accompanying the Joyce Garrett Choir joined them for the evening's rousing conclusion.

From executive producer Michael Green (NBC's "Heroes") comes "Kings," a riveting new drama about a modern-day monarchy. "Kings" is a contemporary retelling of the timeless tale of David and Goliath. This series is an epic story of greed and power, war and romance, forbidden loves and secret alliances -- and a young hero who rises to power in a modern-day kingdom. King Silas Benjamin (Ian McShane, "Deadwood") is the well-entrenched king of Gilboa, with its capital in Shiloh, a clean new city that is unspoiled by time or litter. Silas must deal with the tensions rising between Gilboa and neighboring nation Gath. When several prisoners of war are taken, a young soldier, David Shepard (Chris Egan, "Eragon"), defies orders and crosses enemy lines to save them. Unknown to David, the soldier he saves is Jack Benjamin (Sebastian Stan, "The Covenant"), the son of the king. From that day forth, David's life will never be the same.

Also starring are Susanna Thompson ("Once & Again"), Allison Miller ("Lucy's Piano"), Wes Studi ("Comanche Moon," "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee"), Eamonn Walker ("Oz") and Dylan Baker ("Spiderman 2"). The series is from Universal Media Studios. "Kings" is executive-produced by Green, Erwin Stoff ("I Am Legend") and Francis Lawrence ("I Am Legend"), who also directed the pilot.

"XIII" is a high-stakes cat-and-mouse thriller starring Val Kilmer ("The Doors"), Stephen Dorff ("World Trade Center"), Stephen McHattie ("Watchmen") and Jessalyn Gilsig (NBC's "Heroes"). The adrenaline-charged miniseries begins dramatically as the first female U.S. president is shot dead by a sniper during her Veterans Day speech. Three months later, a wounded man is found tattered in a forest with no memory of his identity. The only clue is a tattoo on his neck -- "XIII." Could his lightning-fast reflexes and killer instincts betray him as the presidential assassin that the U.S. is desperately searching for? Submerged in a far-reaching conspiracy, which threatens to overthrow the entire government, XIII's identity becomes the key to unraveling a complex and dangerous secret that will shock and excite. From the first bullet, this gripping action-thriller will leave audiences gasping for more. Ted Atherton ("Max Payne"), John Bourgeois ("Burn Up"), Greg Bryk ("ReGenesis"), Lucinda Davis ("Wargames: The Dead Code"), and Caterina Murino ("Casino Royale") also star. "XIII" is an official Canada/France co-production, developed and produced by Prodigy Pictures and Cipango in association with Power. Prodigy Pictures' Jay Firestone, Cipango's Edouard Vesinne and Thomas Anargyros and Power's Justin Bodle will serve as executive producers. Directed by Duane Clark ("CSI," "Meadowlands), "XIII" is written by David Wolkove ("La Femme Nikita," "Relic Hunter") and Philippe Lyon ("The Trail," "Alive").

"The Celebrity Apprentice" and host Donald Trump will return with two-hour episodes and a dynamic cast of brilliant celebrity business minds. Last season saw Piers Morgan defeat Trace Adkins to become the first Celebrity Apprentice. This season, 16 new celebrities will be vying for the coveted title, using all their business savvy as they fight for causes close to their hearts. Celebrities will be subjected to long hours, grueling mental challenges, personality clashes, and intense scrutiny -- all without the help of their regular support system of agents, managers, and personal assistants. Ultimately, they will face the judgment of Donald Trump and his advisors in the boardroom, which will include his children (and colleagues), Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr.

In addition, Betsy Fischer, the program's longtime executive producer has extended her tenure with the top-rated broadcast. The announcements were made today by Steve Capus, President of NBC News.

"For 61 years, this program has played a vital role in our nation's political discourse and millions of Americans' Sunday mornings," said Capus. "We lost a legend this summer, and today we hand the program over to someone who has a true appreciation and respect for the 'Meet the Press' legacy, and a keen sense of what it needs to be in the future. David and Betsy are first-rate and I'm thrilled to have them in their roles at a key time in the program's, and the country's, history. I'd also like to thank Tom Brokaw, whose tremendous dedication has helped to lead 'Meet the Press' through this critical transition and extraordinary election season. He did so out of honor and respect for our friend Tim Russert, and we'll always be grateful."

"I'm honored and deeply humbled as I take on this role," said Gregory. "I'm filled with a great sense of purpose as I join a superb team to cover Washington and the world from a treasured platform in our country. Above all, I want to make Tim proud."

"It's an exciting next chapter in the long history of 'Meet the Press' and I, along with the rest of the staff, am eagerly looking forward to this new era." said Fischer. "Tim so often said one of the most important things for a good journalist to do is be prepared -- and there is no doubt that David is prepared for this. Not only is he a huge talent, but his tremendous knowledge of Washington and his persistence for truth and accountability make him a natural fit to uphold the strong ideals of 'Meet the Press.'"

"Meet the Press" has been the top-rated Sunday morning public affairs show for nearly 11 consecutive years. It's the longest-running program ever on network television, premiering on NBC-TV on November 6, 1947. The show made its initial debut two years earlier – as a radio program with Martha Rountree and Lawrence Spivak as producers. He follows veteran NBC Newsman Tom Brokaw who served as interim moderator after the untimely death of Tim Russert on June 13, 2008.

In addition to his "Meet the Press" responsibilities, Gregory will be a regular contributor for "Today" and will continue to serve as a back-up anchor for the broadcast. He will also continue as a regular contributor and analyst on MSNBC, and lend his voice and reporting to all NBC News broadcasts including coverage of special events.

Gregory first joined NBC News in 1995. He served as White House Correspondent during the presidency of George W. Bush, reporting extensively on the 9-11 attacks as well as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Gregory has also covered three presidential campaigns in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

Earning a reputation for being one of the toughest questioners of President Bush and his press secretaries, Washingtonian magazine named Gregory one of Washington's 50 best and most influential journalists, labeling him the "firebrand in the front row."

On the campaign trail in 2004, and during his years covering the White House Gregory was among the most heavily utilized network correspondent on television, according to the Tyndall Report.

ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP PRESIDENT DANA WHITE AND THE FOOD NETWORK'S TYLER FLORENCE MAKE SPECIAL GUEST-APPEARANCES ON UPCOMING EPISODES OF NBC'S NEW DATING SERIES 'MOMMA'S BOYS'

Universal City, Ca., December 8th, 2008.              Dana White, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and Tyler Florence, famous chef and star of the Food Network, will guest-star on upcoming episodes of NBC's new dating series "Momma's Boys" (December 16 premiere) which centers around three possessive, yet loving mothers who must help their complacent sons choose the perfect woman -- and ultimately poses the question: "Who is really the most important woman in every man's life?"

White will guest-star in the series' two-hour second episode on Monday, December 22 (9-11 p.m.) and Florence will guest star in the third episode airing Monday, December 29 (10-11 p.m. ET).

"Momma's Boys," the mother of all reality dating shows -- from multimedia talent-producer, Ryan Seacrest of Ryan Seacrest Productions (RSP), and Glassman Media -- is a unique reality dating series where over the course of six weeks, viewers will watch the intense, emotional showdowns and rivalries, as well as the raw, personal moments between mother and son. All of this will unfold as 32 single women -- some classy and some brassy -- vie for the attention of the three eligible bachelors and their mothers who live with them throughout the series. "Momma's Boys" will uncover the conflicts between a mother's wishes and a son's desires and reveal the truth about who plays a more crucial role in a young man's life -- his mother or his significant other.

QUOTABLES FROM 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE'S' 'WEEKEND UPDATE' WITH AMY POEHLER AND SETH MEYERS

DECEMBER 6, 2008

"WEEKEND UPDATE" CO-ANCHOR AMY POEHLER– "O.J Simpson was sentenced Friday to 9 to 33 years in prison for robbery and kidnapping. Prior to his sentencing, O.J. apologized and said he did not know he had broken the law. But reminded the judge that normally when he breaks the law, he gets to go home."

POEHLER – "The runoff in the Georgia senate race was won this week by Saxby Chambliss, who is the incumbent Republican Senator and not, as I had believed, an obscure font."

"WEEKEND UPDATE" CO-ANCHOR SETH MEYERS – "Barack Obama announced Wednesday that New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is his choice for Secretary of Commerce. Which should be an easy job, now that there isn't any."

MEYERS – "The head of Regal Entertainment, the nation's largest movie theater chain, said that as the recession gets worse, more people are coming to the movies. Because nothing helps you forget your financial troubles quite like a five dollar Sprite."

POEHLER – "The New York Public Interest Research group said this week that one in three popular children's toys contain hazardous chemicals such as lead, arsenic and mercury. The worst : 'I Don't Feel So Good Elmo.'"

POEHLER – "Nearly 84 million people went online on Cyber Monday to shop for Christmas presents. The internet is a great way to shop, because there are very few real stores that will let you make your purchases and then hang around masturbating."

MEYERS – "Police in Missouri arrested a husband and wife burglary team who allegedly had robbed about 60 homes. The way they worked was he would rob the homes, and she would stand outside and tell him he was doing it wrong."

MEYERS – "Boy George on Friday was convicted of falsely imprisoning a male escort. The world's weakest male escort."

POEHLER – "Blake Fielder-Civil, the husband of Amy Winehouse, said in an interview that Winehouse became a drug addict because he introduced her to drugs, and that 'to save her life' he has vowed to leave her. Because nothing gets people off drugs like being dumped."

POEHLER – "A hunter in Missouri, who had shot a deer twice, was seriously injured when the deer, who wasn't dead, jumped up and gored him. Or as the story was reported in the deer community: 'Serial Killer Injured as Victim Fights Back.'"

POEHLER – "The British town of Torbay is spending 60,000 dollars to buy flip-flops for drunk women so that they can walk home without having to deal with high heels. Because if the walk of shame was missing anything, it was a comical sound effect."

MEYERS – "A recent survey of 25 European countries revealed that French men have the longest penises, with an average length of 15.48 centimeters. Luckily that does not make me feel bad, because I do not understand the metric system."

MEYERS – "In an interview with 'Meet The Press,' Laura Bush said that when she and George Bush leave the White House in January, the thing she will miss the most are 'all the people that are around us all the time, from the ushers and butler, to our own staff.' So, basically anyone who, at any point, has put their nuts on their toothbrushes."

POEHLER – "Houston's Bush International Airport has set up karaoke boots for travelers waiting for flights. Because often when I'm waiting in an airport I think, 'I wish I had a non-professional musician singing Journey right now.'"

MEYERS – "A walrus at a zoo in Turkey has become a major attraction after learning to play the saxophone. Which begs the question: how bored are Turkish zookeepers that they're just strapping instruments to animals and seeing what takes?"

MEYERS – "TLC has created a new reality series called '17 Kids and Counting' which follows an Arkansas couple, their 17 children, and the birth of their 18th child. It will be immediately followed by another new series: 'Vagina 9-1-1.'"
