NBC TO PICK UP NINE ADDITIONAL EPISODES OF RETURNING DRAMA 'LIFE' TO COMPLETE FULL-SEASON ORDER FOR 2008-09

Burbank, Ca., November 7, 2008.
NBC will pick up nine additional episodes of its sophomore drama "Life" (Wednesdays, 9p.m. ET), giving the series a full-season order for 2008-09, it was announced today by Ben Silverman, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.

"This unique crime drama continues to offer consistent and compelling stories each week," said Teri Weinberg, Executive Vice President, NBC Entertainment. "We love 'Life' and are thrilled that we get to see more of these characters and amazing new cases."

The drama "Life," from Rand Ravich ("The Astronaut's Wife") and Far Shariat ("Confessions of a Dangerous Mind"), focuses on a detective who is given a second chance. Golden Globe nominee Damian Lewis ("Band of Brothers") plays complex, offbeat Detective Charlie Crews, who returns to the force after serving time in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Crews' new lease on life has provided him with a Zen-like outlook, peace of mind and no need for vengeance, an attitude which can be challenging to maintain when someone he cares about is threatened -- or when he is investigating the mystery surrounding the murder he was falsely accused of.

Lewis is joined by cast members Sarah Shahi ("Rush Hour 3") as Dani Reese, Charlie's skeptical and demanding partner; Brent Sexton (HBO's "Deadwood") as Officer Bobby Stark; Donal Logue ("Grounded for Life)" as Captain Kevin Tidwell, and Adam Arkin ("Chicago Hope") as Crew's former cellmate Ted Earley.

"DICK CLARK'S NEW YEAR'S ROCKIN' EVE WITH RYAN SEACREST 2009" AIRS WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31 LIVE ON ABC

New York, N.Y., November 12th, 2008.          For the 37th consecutive year, "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2009" will lead America into the New Year when Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest host specials starting at 10:00 p.m., ET, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 31 on the ABC Television Network.

Singer/songwriter Fergie returns to perform and host the West Coast party portions of the specials, and for the first time country star Kellie Pickler will be the Times Square correspondent, reporting on other happenings in and around New York City. This year will include performances from both New York and Hollywood, and the American tradition of Dick Clark counting down to midnight will once again take place during the three-and-a-half hours of specials from Times Square in New York City.

The festivities will kick off with "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2009" from10:00-11:00 p.m., ET, featuring performances live from New York's Times Square.

During "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2009, Part 1" (11:35 p.m. - 1:05 a.m., ET), in addition to reporting on the final minutes of 2008 and the traditional Times Square countdown to midnight, the show will feature music performances from both Hollywood, California and Times Square in New York.

Wrapping the night's activities will be "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2009, Part 2" (1:05-2:05 a.m., ET), when musical acts will continue the party into the early hours of the New Year with additional performances from Hollywood.

Multi-platinum, three-time Grammy award-winning, international superstar Fergie, who joined The Black Eyed Peas in 2002, released her solo debut, "The Dutchess," in 2006. "The Dutchess," which spent an astounding 94 weeks on the Billboard 200 albums chart, sold over 6 million copies worldwide and achieved triple-platinum status in the United States. Its success was propelled by the hit singles "London Bridge," "Fergalicious" (#1), "Glamorous" (#1), "Big Girls Don't Cry" (#1), "Clumsy (#2)" and "Finally." Fergie is the first artist since Christina Aguilera (in 2000) to score three #1s from one album.

Singer/songwriter Kellie Pickler continues to entertain us since her debut on "American Idol" in 2006. Her first album sold more than 800,000 copies, and she made history with her self-titled, sophomore album upon its release in October this year, when she became only the sixth country artist to have her first two albums debut at #1 on the Billboard Country Album Chart. The multi-nominated and awarded Pickler's current single is "Best Days of Your Life," which she wrote her friend and fellow artist, Taylor Swift.

"New Year's Eve with Dick and Ryan is a time honored tradition and all of us at dcp and ABC are delighted that Fergie will once again host our West Coast event, and thrilled that Kellie Pickler will be amidst the revelry and party goers at Times Square," said Orly Adelson, president of dick clark productions.

JASON MESNICK, THE FIRST SINGLE DAD IN "BACHELOR" SERIES HISTORY, GETS A SECOND CHANCE AT LOVE WHEN "THE BACHELOR" PREMIERES MONDAY, JANUARY 5, 2009 ON ABC

New York, N.Y., November 12th, 2008.          Jason Mesnick, 32, a handsome single dad - the first in the series' history - begins his own bid for true love and the pursuit of his ultimate soul mate, choosing from among 25 bachelorettes, when the 13th edition of ABC's popular romance reality series, "The Bachelor," premieres with a two-hour special, MONDAY, JANUARY 5, 2009 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Millions of viewers were stunned when DeAnna Pappas rejected Jason's proposal, as he dropped to one knee to profess his love in the season finale of "The Bachelorette." Jason was left brokenhearted and wondering how he could have misjudged DeAnna's intentions, but his female fans flocked to support him, helping him heal from his very public dismissal.

Jason became a huge viewer favorite during the chase to win DeAnna's heart, as fans rushed to e-mail him in droves in total sympathy to his plight. He still believes in destiny and that he can find love through "The Bachelor," as he discovered when he fell for DeAnna. His heart-warming story as a single father from Seattle with a three-year-old son, Ty - the apple of his eye - struck a chord with many women. Divorced two years ago, Jason would like to start another family, himself the middle son in a family of three boys. His older brother, Sean, is married with children. Jason currently lives with his younger brother, Larry, and with Ty.

An account executive in estate and legacy planning, Jason is looking for a woman who has a real curiosity about the world, who loves life and can find passion in life's smallest moments. Open and honest, the good-looking and appealing Bachelor loves a variety of sports, including swimming, golf, basketball and football. In fact he used to be a golf professional at a local club. He has traveled all over Europe and continues to pursue his desire to see the world. In his spare time, he takes guitar and swing dance lessons. Perhaps not surprisingly, Jason is a "big brother" for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America. A philanthropist himself, he hopes to someday form and run his own children's charity.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Jason moved to Washington at the age of eight. He has a BA in psychology at the University of Washington.

'TODAY GOES TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH'

New York, N.Y., November 6th, 2008.          Nearly 71 percent of the Earth is covered in water, yet it's one of the least explored resources on the planet. In a special broadcast event, NBC News' "Today" will journey to majestic destinations to examine the world's first fuel and most precious resource -- water. Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Ann Curry will each travel to a breathtaking yet fragile location affected by a changing climate. From vast glaciers melting, and dangerously dry spans of land, to wildlife on the verge of vanishing, "Today" takes a look at these places in peril to determine what can be done to protect them, and how much time is left to save what remains… at water's edge? "Today Goes to the Ends of the Earth" begins Monday, November 17 as part of the "Green is Universal" initiative, "Green Week" - a companywide, weeklong programming effort dedicated to raising environmental awareness.

Last year, in an historic event, "Today" broadcast its first edition of "Ends of the Earth." "Today" anchors were dispatched to the top, bottom and middle of the globe to explore the diversity of life on this planet, to examine environmental extremes, and to investigate the extraordinary effects of climate change. Last year's trip achieved the first-ever live simultaneous broadcast from the Arctic, the Antarctic and the Equator.

This year, "Today" continues its commitment to discover how the planet is changing and how this change affects viewers at home. During this trip, Matt, Meredith, Al and Ann will travel to the "Ends of the Earth" to explore the power of water, bringing viewers to four profoundly remarkable, yet vulnerable destinations. Each anchor's location will be revealed live simultaneously on "Today" Monday, November 17.

For these extreme journeys, "Today" will offset its carbon footprint in mileage and fuel. The total mileage traveled includes any surveys done for the trips as well as the actual trips. "Today" will also document Matt, Meredith, Al and Ann's expeditions, which could take up to several days. Additionally, throughout the entire week, "Today" anchors will demonstrate new and easy ways to "Green Your Routine" to show how small changes in daily life can make a huge positive impact on the environment.

"Today's" "Ends of the Earth" content will extend online to TODAYshow.com, where users will find video from the program, slide shows, resources and original stories about water and global climate change.

AL ROKER GOES TO THE LAND OF FIRE AND ICE

New York, N.Y., November 12th, 2008.          "Today's" Al Roker will travel to Iceland to explore the country's diverse and extraordinary water sources. Roker's voyage to The Land of Fire and Ice is part of the series, "Today Goes to the Ends of the Earth."

Last week "Today" announced its second edition of "Ends of the Earth," which is part of the "Green is Universal" initiative, "Green Week." This year, Matt, Meredith, Al and Ann will each journey to a breathtaking yet fragile location to examine the world's most precious resource – water. Beginning Monday, November 17, the four "Today" anchors will simultaneously broadcast live from their locations around the world. This week, before the anchors leave for their expeditions, "Today" is announcing each of their destinations. The trip marks the first time ever all four "Today" anchors have broadcast from separate remote locations.

Iceland is known as The Land of Fire and Ice because of the volcanoes and glaciers that shape the landscape. However, Iceland is currently undergoing a major transformation as its glaciers melt and weather patterns change dramatically. Roker will examine the changing climate of Iceland, and he'll also take a look at the dramatic efforts the country has made to use water as an alternative energy source.

In Iceland, water means power, literally. The country uses its waterfalls, geysers, hot springs and rivers to provide electricity and heat to the entire country through alternative hydroelectric and geothermal energies. The country boasts more than 200 volcanoes and more than 10,000 waterfalls. Roker will broadcast from Gullfoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls in Iceland, and from the famous Blue Lagoon in Reykjavik, the closest capital city to the Arctic Circle.

During the "Ends of the Earth" series, "Today" continues its commitment to discover how the planet is changing and how this change affects viewers at home. This year, Matt, Meredith, Al and Ann will each to explore the power of water, simultaneously bringing viewers to four profoundly remarkable, yet vulnerable destinations. MEREDITH VIEIRA GOES DOWN UNDER

New York, N.Y., November 10th, 2008.
Next week, "Today's" Meredith Vieira will be saying "G'day" to America from the land down under. Vieira will explore the vastly dry spans of land on the world's smallest, lowest and flattest continent as part of the series, "Today Goes to the Ends of the Earth."

This week, before the anchors leave for their expeditions, "Today" will reveal each of their destinations.

As a wildly popular tourist destination, Australia offers amazing landscapes and diverse ecosystems. However, the entire continent has been facing climate issues that include rising sea levels on its costal islands and a devastating seven-year drought. Vieira will travel to several locations in Australia to examine the country's changing climate and to learn why its lakes, rivers and reservoirs are drying up.

Vieira will visit Sydney Harbour National Park in Sydney, a city that enforces strict water restrictions for residents in response to the drought. She'll also take a look at The Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef on Earth, which is suffering from coral bleaching. Some scientists predict the reef may disappear by the year 2050 due to climate change. Vieira will also explore Australia's diverse wildlife and travel to Philip Island, home of the largest "small penguin" colony in the world.

20 ACROSS: YELLOW ANIMATED FAMILY… “THE SIMPSONS” TO BE FEATURED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES CROSSWORD PUZZLE ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 16; MERL REAGLE AND WILL SHORTZ MAKE GUEST VOICE APPEARANCES IN SPECIAL EPISODE

Crossword puzzle creator Merl Reagle and The New York Times Crossword Puzzle editor Will Shortz make guest voice appearances in the all-new “Homer and Lisa Exchange Cross Words” episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, Nov. 16 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Reagle and Shortz collaborated with SIMPSONS executive producer Tim Long to create a hidden SIMPSONS-related message – integral to that night’s episode – that will appear in The New York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle on Nov. 16.

In the episode, after Lisa discovers her amazing talent for solving crossword puzzles, she becomes an expert cruciverbalist and enters a citywide crossword puzzle tournament. Homer, short on cash, gets involved in an underground betting ring at the tournament, and in the ultimate betrayal, profits from betting against Lisa. When Homer and Lisa exchange cross words, Homer enlists the help of Shortz and Reagle to spell out his love for Lisa.

“One of the great things about working on THE SIMPSONS is that when we do a show on a particular subject – be it politics, sports or music – we do it right,” Long notes. “In this case, we hired master constructor Merl Reagle (who guest-voices as himself) to design every single crossword puzzle visible throughout the episode. Conscientious or obsessive-compulsive? You be the judge!”

Long credits the documentary “Word Play,” which chronicles the national crossword puzzle championships, as his inspiration for the episode. “The world it depicts is just so vivid and real, and Will Shortz has such an understated charisma about him. I understand that when Will makes public appearances, women throw their No. 2 pencils at him.”

Chosen from among 100,000 hopefuls, these amazing talents went on to superstardom. But countless others waited for a call back that never came -- until now. Casella has an entire generation of auditions on videotape, and now almost 20 years later we're going to find them and give them that special moment in the spotlight that they've dreamt about since they were kids. Hosted by superstars Donny & Marie, "Rediscovered" airs TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

In "Rediscovered" we'll look back at the original casting tapes of five aspiring child stars. Contestants' identities will be revealed when they step into the spotlight and perform in front of a live audience in an electrifying production at the famed Orpheum Theatre.

"This show is about making childhood dreams come true," says executive producer Dave Broome. "What makes this show so different is that, unlike other competition shows, none of our contestants applied. We tracked them down, surprised them, and plucked them from their daily lives for this once in a lifetime chance."

Contestants who have been chosen to be "Rediscovered" include a banquet manager from Orange County, California, an insurance marketer from North Carolina, a holistic therapy salesman from Las Vegas, Nevada, a real estate assistant from St. Louis, Missouri and a building contractor from Los Angeles, California. The chosen few will be flown to Los Angeles with their families to perform live in front of an audience, after which the live studio audience will pick their favorite.

Also revealed will be Casella's never-before-seen audition footage of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Jessica Simpson, Keri Russell, JC Chasez and many more celebrity childhood auditions from 15-20 years ago. "CARING FOR GOD'S CREATION," AN INTERFAITH RELIGION SPECIAL ABOUT THINKING GREEN, TO BE BROADCAST SUNDAY, DEC. 7 ON THE CBS TELEVISON NETWORK

New York, N.Y., November 12th, 2008.          CARING FOR GOD'S CREATION, an interfaith religion special will be broadcast Sunday, Dec. 7 on the CBS Television Network. Check your local station for exact time.

"Environmental issues are brand new to religious groups," says the Rev. Fletcher Harper, Executive Director of GreenFaith, an interfaith environmental coalition based in New Jersey, "and we exist to help them understand what those issues are." The coalition encourages Protestant, Roman Catholic, Jewish, Islamic and other New Jersey congregations to 'think green.'"

CARING FOR GOD'S CREATION visits St. Mary's, a Franciscan-run parish in Pompton Lakes, N.J. where, surprisingly, high school students are seen dumping and sorting through the vast institution's raw garbage and trash under the watchful eye of St. Francis of Assisi. The Pastor, Rev. Kevin Downey, O.F.M., explains the Franciscan connection to greening in a greedy world, and Stacey Kennealy of GreenFaith guides the students through careful sorting and recycling.

At Congregation B'nai Abraham in Livingston, N.J., Rabbi Clifford Kulwin explains why the Congregation decided to go green with over 400 solar panels providing part of its electrical needs.  We also hear more from Tracey Bent, Facilities Manager as he and two members, Deborah Prinz and Janet Penn, climb ladders and descend stairs to explore the mysteries of solar power.

In a science classroom at Al-Hikmah Islamic School in Prospect Park, N.J., students whose families hail from four continents hear from Rev. Harper and Ms. Kennealy of GreenFaith, school science teacher Reem Fahkry, and the principal, Sister Amanny Khattab about the problems of pollution and global warming and why Islamic tradition requires "greener" living.

CARING FOR GOD'S CREATION then visits an Episcopal Church, St. John on the Mountain, Bernardsville, N.J., where Rabbi Lawrence Troster of GreenFaith encourages church elders to join the green movement. And, last but by no means least, we tour some of the many toxic sites in and around the city of Newark, N.J., with GreenFaith, as religious and scholarly experts explain how the poor are especially victimized by the pollution caused by an economy of waste. The tour begins at First Hopewell Baptist Church in Newark, whose Pastor, Rev. Antonio Porter, and Associate Minister Rev. Esther Haire joined GreenFaith to gain a mightier voice in cleaning up their city's air and water.

GOLF DIGEST U.S. OPEN CHALLENGE MOVES TO BETHPAGE BLACK

New York, N.Y., November 11th, 2008.                      Golf Digest, the United States Golf Association and NBC Sports are again asking average American golfers "What Would You Shoot?" on a U.S. Open course. The second Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge will test one winner at the site of the 2009 U.S. Open Championship – the Black Course at Bethpage State Park – next June.

The 2009 contest presents a challenging twist right from the start as hopeful participants have only six words to explain why they think they can break a score of 100. Starting today golf fans can go to www.gdopencontest.com to submit their six-word essay. The submission period runs through Jan. 31, 2009.

Entrants may also submit a short video (less than 60 seconds) that further supports their six words. Contenders will be narrowed down to five finalists, with the winner to be chosen by the public, through online voting, in March and April.

The winner of the Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge will play 18 holes on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y. only days before the 2009 U.S. Open Championship. NBC will broadcast the round, which will include three celebrities accompanying the winning contestant, as a 90-minute television program on June 21, prior to its final round telecast of the U.S. Open.

"The passion for this opportunity that was expressed by golfers from every walk of life last year was overwhelming," said Jerry Tarde, Chairman and Editor-In-Chief of Golf Digest. "With the help of the USGA and NBC Sports, we hope to again create a very special and emotional day for one deserving winner."

The 2008 contest generated 56,374 essays and saw more than 117,000 people vote online for their favorite finalist. John Atkinson, a sales manager from Omaha, Neb., with an 8.0 USGA Handicap Index ฎ, won with more than 42% of the vote.

"The Challenge – through Golf Digest's lead-up stories and the NBC broadcast of the competition – was a creative way of giving people a peek into what goes into setting up the U.S. Open every year," said USGA Executive Director David Fay. "It also provided a fun, informative platform through which we could promote some of our other core programs, including the USGA Handicap System, our role as equipment regulator and our impact – through our Green Section – on golf course conditioning. So we're delighted to participate again and to see how the average golfer fares on a very challenging golf course set up under U.S. Open conditions."

Golfers of all handicaps are eligible for the contest. The nationally televised round will be played under the same course conditions and USGA Rules that the U.S. Open competitors will face the following week.

"Last year's event exceeded our wildest expectations," said Jon Miller, Executive Vice President, NBC Sports. "The Challenge was embraced by the entire golf community, and one of the highlights was seeing some of the pros come out to watch and enjoy the event, and hearing their positive feedback. We can't wait to build on last year's success."

To enter the 2009 U.S. Open Challenge, visit www.gdopencontest.com. For more information about the Challenge and the 109th U.S. Open Championship at Bethpage Black, visit www.usopen.com. Additional details about the contest can also be found in the December issue of Golf Digest (on newsstands today) and at www.golfdigest.com, and www.nbcsports.com.

QUOTABLES FROM NBC'S 'LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN'

November 3 – 7

"Tonight at midnight in Arizona John McCain appeared at his final campaign event, which is being called, 'The Midnight Road to Victory.' Of course, for McCain 'The Midnight Road to Victory' is the hallway between his bedroom & bathroom."

"The Republican Party has asked President Bush to stay out of sight until after the election. Apparently Bush has agreed to this strategy and is appearing weekly on the NBC series, 'Kath and Kim.'"

"This weekend at a John McCain rally, Arnold Schwarzenegger said that Barack Obama needs to exercise more because his legs are too skinny. Then he said: 'Now behold – the awesome physical specimen that is John McCain!'"

"Over the weekend a comedian on the radio tricked Sarah Palin into getting on the phone by pretending he was French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The comedian says it was really difficult to trick Palin into believing he was Nicolas Sarkozy – because she has no idea who that is."

"In Florida voting officials turned down a request for a nudist-only voting booth. The officials said that they were afraid the nudists would pull the wrong lever."

"Joe the Plumber is now saying that he wants to write a book. Joe's book would be called 'The Five People You Meet Fixing Toilets.'"
