 No Ordinary Family

(June 20th, 2010.  -  Editor)               Michael Chiklis, Julie Benz, Romany Malco, Tate Donovan, Autumn Reeser, Christina Chang, Kay Panabaker and Jimmy Bennett star in the one hour drama No Ordinary Family.

The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie’s relationship lacked the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children; leaving little time for family bonding.  During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River. But this is where the fun starts for the Powells as they soon discover that something’s not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct superpowers.  But saving and savoring their family life will be equally important as they try to find purpose for their new power and embark on a journey to find out what defines and unifies them. The Powells are a totally relatable family that happens to be a little bit amazing.

Superman meets Suburbia. An interesting concept. Who among us has not wondered what it would be like to leap tall buildings, stop a gunshot or run faster than a speeding bullet. I am interested in where the plot moves next. Considering how much information was conveyed in the pilot episode, it remains entertaining thanks to a script that allowed the actor to deal with the real emotions that would, I suppose, be a big part of the transformation for average guy to superhero.

If this television drama can manage to keep the battles between the forces of good and evil bloodless and on-going, just like they do in the comic books that made this genre the success it is today, it should find a place in the line-up and in the hearts of the TV audience. Chiklis and company are off to a solid start. Lets hope they can keep it running.
