 Surviving Suburbia

(April 6th, 2009.  Editor)               Bob Saget, Cynthia Stevenson, Jared Kusnitz, G Hannelius, Jere Burns, Dan Cortese and Lorna Scott star in the half hour situation Surviving Suburbia, airing Mondays on ABC.

"Surviving Suburbia" takes a contemporary look at family life and the reasons one might have to question the system. How does exchanging keys with a neighbor for emergencies result in house sitting? Why do kids' classroom projects inevitably become the parents' responsibility? When did we start needing mediators to handle disagreements between adults? All of which goes to prove that it's never just another sunny day in the suburbs.

Fair warning to those fans of Full House who think they are getting more of the same. Look out. This is not what you were hoping for. But if you like a very real and edgy guy, who gets himself in, and sometimes out, of the same kind of situations that everyone has to face. Then tune in. This is not the sweet, light, family show of the 1980's. This is a 21st century look at the family dynamic and society as a whole. It's tough. It's real. It's funny.

Somewhere in Hollywood, there is an office filled with comedy writers who have been tasked with keeping the fast pace and edgy attitude of this new comedy at its peak. They are working furiously. If they can keep up the pace, this comedy could rocket to the top of the ratings and stay there. If not, nothing else will save it. Saget is aiming for the top of the heap with this effort and second place is not going to please him.

With the debut of this series, Bob Saget has achieved something very few actors, if any, have ever achieved before. He hss appeared regularly on a prime time television show for NBC, CBS & ABC in the same television season. As the host of the prime time game show 1 Vs 100 for NBC, as the narrator on the CBS Sitcom How I Met Your Mother and now as the star of Surviving Suburbia for ABC. For the former host of America's Funniest Home Videos and the former star of Full House, the achievement is the latest in a career that is the envy of the industry.

I'm betting on this one making the cut. Bob Saget and the rest of this talented cast have the timing and the chemistry right. The writers have a clear direction and plenty of story options and their star is the most recognized man on television. That all adds up to success.
