TV Show Person Of Interest

Person Of Interest

(September 29th, 2011. - www.tvview.tv)               Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson and Taraji P star in the offbeat crime drama Person Of Interest, airing Thursdays on CBS.

Person Of Interest is a one hour crime thriller about a presumed dead former-CIA agent who teams up with a mysterious billionaire to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice.  Reese's (Caviezel) special training in covert operations appeals to Finch (Emerson), a software genius who invented a program that uses pattern recognition to identify people about to be involved in violent crimes.  Using state-of-the-art surveillance technology, the two work outside of the law using Reese's adept skills and Finch's unlimited wealth to unravel the mystery of the person of interest and stop the crime before it happens.  Reese's actions catch the attention of the NYPD, including homicide detective Carter, and Fusco, a cop who Reese uses to his advantage.  With infinite crimes to investigate, Reese and Finch find that the right person, with the right information, at the right time, can change everything.

The biggest determining factor between success and failure for this series is going to be if you can allow yourself to buy in to the premise that there is a billionaire computer wizard, who first created and then hacked into, the most sophisticated government security device of our time. He then uses this information to find crime and criminals that are not on the radar of the country's nation security agencies, but are still preventable. He could, but does not yet, have an entire team of former government people working for him, but he has recruited one man. I guess that's a start.

I think this series is going to get bogged down in the details of having to resell the premise in each new episode, because there will be no clear plot pattern for the audience to follow. I hope the writers find a way to deliver a quick catch-up package with each new episode and move on quickly, so that old viewers don't get bored waiting for the new guys to be brought up to speed.

I like this show. I like the idea of a good guy, or a couple of them, who are willing to give something back to the system, instead of asking what the system will give them. The everyman needs someone watching out for them, but it seldom happens, even on TV. I hope these "White Knight" hackers find a place in the schedule. It's time for a couple of new heroes.
